ABOUT BEECH TREE THERAPY

Beech Tree Therapy was founded by Marie Cumiskey to provide a comprehensive range of support services aimed at helping clients reconnect with themselves and others. Our mission is to facilitate personal growth and development in a non-judgmental, meaningful, and purposeful environment. We offer a compassionate, comfortable, and confidential space for clients to explore their most sensitive issues.

Marie Cumiskey, the founder of Beech Tree Therapy, is passionate about working with people and is dedicated to supporting their journey towards self-discovery and well-being. Her approach to counselling and psychotherapy is integrative, blending Person-Centred, Humanistic, and Existential therapies with cognitive-behavioural methods such as Reality Therapy. Recognising the uniqueness of each individual, Marie tailors her therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of each client.

Marie believes in simplifying therapy to make it relatable and practical for day-to-day life. She focuses on helping clients find their footing in challenging situations and alleviating immediate distress by addressing the worries that drive anxiety and the self-criticism that fuels depression. Her goal is to guide clients in responding to painful emotions in more constructive ways, concentrating on present difficulties rather than revisiting a painful past. Marie's approach is rooted in the belief that clients possess a natural ability to cope, which, when realised with the support of a therapist, fosters long-term confidence and well-being.

Marie is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and has completed her training in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy through IICP. She is currently pursuing a Diploma in Integrative Adolescent Psychotherapy with The Greenane Centre. Additionally, Marie is a qualified Guidance Counsellor from DCU and continues to work in this field, maintaining best practices through regular supervision.

Marie also supports students seeking additional career guidance and direction. She has held several prominent positions, including representing Kilkenny-Carlow on the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC) board of directors from 2017-2019, serving as Chair of the Kilkenny Carlow IGC branch since 2021, and being a board member of the Children's Rights Alliance from 2018-2019 and Carlow Youth Training since 2024.

With strong roots in farming, Marie deeply appreciates the therapeutic benefits of connecting with nature, which informs her holistic approach to therapy. While drawing on her degree in Fine Art, Marie incorporates creative therapies in her practice, using where appropriate sand tray and art therapies.
